The Gleason Lady Bulldogs' defense of
their Class A state title came to an end
with a heartbreaking 57-56 overtime loss
on a buzzer-beater by the West Carroll
Lady War Eagles in the Region 7-A
quarterfinals Thursday night in Atwood.
The loss ends
the Gleason girls' season with a 20-10
record and finishes the high school
basketball career of the team's lone
senior Riley Auvenshine.
"We didn't play
well in the first half, but we battled
and got back in it. We just had too many
turnovers and we missed some free
throws," Gleason head coach Randy
Frazier said.
"Riley's played
hard. She's played hard in every game,"
Frazier said of senior's career.
West Carroll's
win put them in the region semifinals
where they were defeated by Bradford
73-58 on Saturday night at Dresden.
The Lady Dawgs
trailed by as many as eight, 33-25, with
4:24 left in the third quarter. Gleason
finished the third on an 11-5 run using
drives into the paint to draw defenders
before passing to open teammates. Taylor
Stout was the main beneficiary, scoring
nine of Gleason's 11 in the run. A Stout
layup on an Auvenshine assist knotted
the score at 36-all. West Carroll's
Jessica Carter put her team back in
front with a 15-footer for the final
points of the third.
Trailing 38-36
when the fourth quarter began, Gleason
twice had chances to tie or take the
lead, but a miss and a turnover allowed
WC's Emily Hall to nail a trey to bump
the gap back to five points. The Lady
War Eagles maintained a lead until the
final seconds of regulation.
An Auvenshine
jumper from the free-throw line cut the
gap to two, 46-44, with just under a
minute remaining in the fourth. At the
40-second mark, a foul sent WC's Ashley
Powell to the charity stripe where she
hit the first try but missed the second.
Kim Edenfield snared the rebound for
Gleason with her team trailing 47-44.
Camille Cooper nailed a jumper from the
wing to move GHS to within a point,
47-46, with 18 seconds left in the
fourth. A quick foul sent Hall to the
line at the 16-second mark. She made the
first but missed the second and Jenna
Frazier grabbed the rebound for Gleason.
Cooper missed a jumper and WC's Brittany
Luther hauled in the bouncing rebound.
She was stripped, and in a mad scramble
on the floor, Frazier gained control.
From her knees she managed to hand the
ball to Stout who was hacked on a shot
with three seconds on the clock. She
calmly made both free throws to forge a
48-all tie and force the overtime
session.
In OT, both
teams turned the ball over on their
first possession. Luther's fifth foul
sent Edenfield to the line. She made
both shots to put Gleason on top 50-48
with 3:25 remaining. West Carroll then
lost the ball out of bounds, putting the
Lady Dawgs seemingly in control with the
lead and possession. However, Madison
Lane stripped the ball from Auvenshine
on the wing and drove the length of the
floor for a short jumper to tie the
score at 50-all. Stout then made
one-of-two free throws. Two free throws
from Hall put West Carroll on top, but
Frazier scored in the paint to give
Gleason a 53-52 lead with 1:39 left in
OT.
A War Eagle
turnover allowed Gleason to wind the
clock before Edenfield was fouled with
35 seconds left. She made both shots for
a 55-52 GHS advantage. Hall then drove
in for a jumper with 22 seconds left.
The Lady Dawgs turned the ball over
after the inbounds pass with Lane making
the steal. Fouled on the possession,
Misty Garmany hit one free throw for a
55-all tie with 7.9 seconds left. Stout
rebounded the second try. Maggie
Lowrance drew a foul with 4.2 ticks on
the clock and hit one-of-two at the
line. The War Eagles threw the ball in
to Lane who drove the length of the
court with little resistance from the
Gleason defense. From the left wing, she
drilled a jumper just before the horn
for a 57-56 West Carroll win.
In the first
quarter, quick foul trouble sent Frazier
to the bench, allowing Luther to roam
the paint for 12 first-half points.
Carter's quickness helped WC break the
press. Her six points in the first
quarter were part of a 13-7 War Eagle
lead. Baskets by Stout and Auvenshine
cut the gap to two, 13-11, at the end of
the first.
In the second
quarter, that same duo split the 14 GHS
points evenly. Gleason took a 16-15 lead
on an Auvenshine free throw, but
Carter's trey regained the lead for West
Carroll. By halftime, the War Eagles had
pulled out to a 29-25 advantage.

For
the second straight game, the free-throw line
became the determining factor in victory for the
Dresden Lady Lions, but this time Dresden came
up short and fell to the Gleason Lady Bulldogs,
38-37, Friday night in Gleason.
The
final game of the night saw the Lions hold back
a Bulldog rally and carry a 66-60 win back to
Dresden.
The
Lady Bulldogs got off to a 5-0 start with Riley
Auvenshine hitting from long distance and Taylor
Stout following with a layup. Dresdens Marlee
Mason hit a pair of free throws to put the Lady
Lions on the board. She converted a three-point
play and made a layup to give the Lady Lions a
7-5 lead. Maggie Lowrance tied the contest with
a layup, but Mason answered with a layup to put
the visitors ahead. A drive to the basket from
Stefanie Riggs increased the Dresden lead to
four, 11-7, but Auvenshine hit a jump shot and
Stout stole the ball and made a layup to tie the
game at 11 after one quarter.
Breanna Dubruiel opened the second quarter by
hitting 1-of-2 free throws to give Dresden the
12-11 lead, but Gleason took the lead back on a
bucket from Sara Hensley. Auvenshine hit another
three to increase the Gleason lead to four,
16-12. A pair of free throws from Riggs brought
Dresden to within a basket, but Auvenshine
converted a three-point play to keep the Lady
Bulldogs ahead.
Out-scoring Dresden 14-9 in the second frame,
Gleason took a 25-20 halftime lead. In the third
quarter, a scoring drought ensued as defense
took over for both squads, but Gleason held a
3-2 edge to build a 28-22 lead after three.
Dresden used a 6-0 scoring run at the beginning
of the fourth quarter to pull within two points,
30-28, with 6:05 left in the game. A layup from
Auvenshine and free throws from Jenna Frazier
increased the GHS lead to six. Mason answered
with a layup and with 3:11 left, Lacie Kelley
hit a 3-pointer to bring Dresden back within
one, 34-33. Auvenshine hit a pair of free
throws, but with 37.7 seconds left, Glisson hit
a layup to again bring Dresden within a point,
36-35. Another Auvenshine trip to the line was
successful, but with 11.9 seconds left, the
senior stepped out of bounds to give Dresden
another opportunity. With 3.9 seconds left
before the final buzzer, Riggs was fouled on a
3-pointer. She sank the first two shots, but a
timeout was called and when Riggs stepped back
to the line, her last shot missed the mark and
gave Gleason the one-point win, 38-37.
Auvenshine led Gleason with 20 points. Mason had
13 for Dresden.
In
the second contest, the Dresden Lions looked to
have matters well in hand after three quarters,
but a furious comeback from Gleason in the final
quarter fell just short and the Lions came out
victorious, 66-60. Matt McCulley opened the
scoring with a free throw and a 3-pointer to
give Dresden the 4-0 lead. Preston Frazier
answered with a three to make the score 4-3.
Austin Evans put back an offensive board for
DHS, but Frazier again connected from long
distance. The scoring continued to stay close,
but a Frazier layup at the end of the quarter
gave the home team a 19-16 advantage.
McCulley scored four straight points again in
the second quarter to make the score 21-20 in
favor of the visitors from the county seat. A
basket from Dimarko Jones gave the Lions the
lead, but a free throw from Evan Orr tied the
score. A layup from Austin Evans gave the Lions
a two-point advantage and free throws put the
visitors ahead 26-22, but Frazier continued to
bring the heat from long distance and hit
another 3-pointer to bring Gleason within one.
By controlling the offensive boards and
out-scoring Gleason 21-13 for the quarter,
Dresden took a 37-32 halftime lead. In the third
quarter, the Lions looked to be pulling away.
Holding the Bulldogs to just five points,
Dresden took a 52-37 advantage after three.
Dresden continued to carry the momentum in the
fourth quarter until, with 1:29 left on the
clock, a Ben Rollins 3-pointer made the score
65-52 and swung the momentum in the Bulldogs
favor. A basket and a pair of free throws from
Orr cut the deficit to nine, 65-56, and Frazier
hit four straight free throws two from a
personal foul and two from a technical foul to
bring the home team within five, 65-60, with
27.1 seconds left. Though the comeback was all
but complete, the Lions tacked on a free throw
and held on for the 66-60 win. McCulley led
Dresden with 19 points. Frazier scored 23 for
the Bulldogs. Source: Weakley County

Lady Bulldogs Pull off

Ashley Coble gets past a Lady Tide
defender during the Lady Bulldogs upset
victory over Peabody Tuesday night.
Gleason knocked off the state's No. 8
team with a stellar fourth-quarter
outing at the free-throw line.
|
|
Near
perfection at the free-throw line helped the Gleason
Lady Bulldogs complete a comeback from a nine-point
deficit in pulling off the upset of the state's No. 8
team in Class A.
Gleason hit
17-of-19 free throws in the fourth quarter to edge the
Peabody Golden Lady Tide 47-41. Peabody hit only 5-of-18
attempts from the free-throw line for the game.
In the boys
game, Peabody used a huge run in the second quarter to
provide a comfortable lead on the way to the 79-52 road
victory over the Dawgs.
In the girls
game, the Lady Tide used their quickness and size to
take control of the contest early. Peabody forced
Gleason into turnovers and controlled the boards during
a 9-0 run. The Tide fed the ball down low to Rakeshia
Perry, who notched six points in the frame, as Peabody
led 15-7 after a quarter.
In the
second quarter, Gleason missed chances to pull closer.
Despite their late accuracy at the line, the Lady Dawgs
hit on only 6-of-12 free throw chances in the second
stanza. Perry pumped in six more points for Peabody
including a 6-footer to give the Tide a 25-16 lead with
just under a minute left in the frame.
Gleason had
a chance to end the first half on a high note. A Lady
Tide turnover gave GHS the ball with 8 seconds left in
the second quarter, but the Lady Dawgs were unable to
fire off a shot and Peabody held a 25-18 lead at the
halftime break.
Defensively,
the Gleason girls did a better job of denying passes to
the post in the second half and turned up the heat with
their fullcourt press at key moments. Offensively, Riley
Auvenshine and Camille Cooper each hit a 3-pointer in
the third to cut a Peabody six-point lead in half. After
Cooper's trey, GHS twice forced turnovers but didn't
convert them into points and trailed 31-28 heading into
the fourth.
To open the
fourth, Peabody had a chance to add to its lead, but
missed twice in the paint before a call for a travel.
Jenna Frazier then hit 3-of-4 from the line, while Perry
missed the front end of a bonus free throw for a 31-all
tie. The score was tied again at 33, 35 and 38.
From there,
the teams traded misses and turnovers before Gleason's
parade to the free-throw line began with 1:54 left to
play. In the final two minutes, the Lady Dawgs connected
on 9-of-10 free throws. Kim Edenfield nailed 5-of-6
attempts in that span, while Auvenshine and Frazier were
both perfect on two charity shots. Edenfield's last free
throw gave Gleason its largest lead of the night, 47-40,
and made it a three-possession game with 13 seconds left
on the clock. The Lady Dawgs went on to celebrate a
47-41 upset and hand Peabody its first District 14-A
loss this season. Frazier topped all scorers with 20
points and hit 14-of-17 free throws. Auvenshine added 18
points and an 8-of-9 showing at the line. For PHS, Perry
ended with a team-high 18 points
In the late
game, the Gleason and Peabody boys traded baskets at a
furious pace in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the
host Bulldogs, the Golden Tide continued to score at
will in the second quarter, while the Dawgs managed just
six points on the way to a 79-52 loss to Peabody.
In the first
quarter, points piled up quickly, but so did fouls for
Gleason center Ben Sumner. He quickly found himself on
the bench with two fouls, leaving the Dawgs to battle on
the boards without him. Colin Bennett had the hot hand
early for GHS, scoring seven of the team's first nine
points. Among those Bennett scores was a trey that put
the Dawgs on top 9-7 with 4:33 left in the quarter.
However, the
Tide forced consecutive turnovers with its press and
rapidly built a seven-point lead, 16-9. A Ben Rollins
3-pointer snapped Peabody's outburst, but Raphael Miller
answered with a 3-ball. Gleason guard Cody Ezell drilled
a 16-footer with a hand in his face to beat the first
horn and cut the Tide lead to 23-18.
Ezell's
steal and layup sliced the gap to three, 23-20, in the
first minute of the second frame. Peabody responded with
a 24-4 run for the rest of the quarter and a 47-24
halftime lead and was never threatened. The Tide was
ahead 56-35 after three quarters.
GHS was
topped by Bennett's 17 points with Preston Frazier
adding 10 points. Peabody was led by Miller's 19 points.

Lady Dawgs Need Overtime
to Squeak Past Greenfield
Stephanie Sturgis -
Press Sports Editor
In
a game as close as they come, the Gleason Lady Bulldogs scored
the first basket in overtime and never gave up that lead in a
thrilling 48-45 victory over the host Lady Yellowjackets of
Greenfield Friday night. The Yellowjacket boys team made sure
the Greenfield fans had something to cheer about with a 56-27
win over the visiting Gleason Bulldogs.
In the girls game,
the largest lead by either team was four points throughout the
entire contest. The teams traded baskets in the final three
minutes of regulation. The score was tied three times during
that span. Both squads had a chance to finish the game in
regulation. Greenfield turned the ball over on an inbounds pass
and Gleason missed a last-second 3-point try to send the game
into overtime.
In the extra
session, Gleason won the tip and eventually took the lead,
46-44, on two Riley Auvenshine free throws. The Lady Bulldog
press forced a turnover, but gave the ball right back with a
turnover. Greenfield tried to send a pass inside to Jordan Galey,
but Gleason intercepted. With the lead, the Lady Dawgs were
content to run the clock and force Greenfield to foul. With 49
seconds left in OT, Kim Edenfield knocked down a pair of charity
shots to double the Lady Dawg lead to 48-44. Greenfield's Katie
McCall made 1-of-2 freebies at the 29-second mark. The Lady
Jackets forced a turnover, but two misses from the floor and a
Jenna Frazier rebound for Gleason let the Lady Dawgs head back
to Tater Town with a 48-45 win.
During regulation,
Greenfield used its outside weapons to counter Frazier's work in
the paint. Lady Jacket senior Taren Hatcher made Frazier work
for every point before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.
Every time it seemed Gleason was about to pull away, the Lady
Jackets got timely 3-pointers from McCall, Galey, Mallory
Robinson or Haley Perkins. Gleason held a 12-10 lead after a
quarter, but the Lady Jackets had the edge, 20-18, at halftime.
At the end of the third quarter, Gleason was again barely in
front, 30-28.
In the boys game,
Gleason snuck inside for some easy scores in the first quarter,
while Greenfield ran its offense. Ben Sumner notched 6 points in
the frame for the Dawgs, while Andrew Shane matched his output
with a half dozen points for Greenfield. The Jackets also got
five points, including a trey, from guard Reggie McHaney to hold
a 17-8 lead after a quarter.
Both teams had
trouble lighting the scoreboard in the second frame. Neither
team scored in the first 4:47 of the quarter and Greenfield
carried a 21-13 lead into halftime. The Jackets turned up the
defensive pressure in the third quarter to force Gleason
turnovers. The resulting points helped Greenfield to a 36-21
lead heading into the fourth.
In the final
quarter, Greenfield limited Gleason to just six points on the
way to the 56-27 win

Dawgs Dump South Fulton for District Wins
By Sara Reid, Special to The Press
It
was all a matter of survival for both Gleason High School squads against the
South Fulton Red Devils Friday night on the hardcourt in South Fulton.
Both Gleason teams left Obion County with victories,
but in opposite fashion. The Lady Bulldogs started strong and held off a late
South Fulton run to win, 50-36, and in the second contest, the visiting Bulldogs
used a fourth-quarter comeback to take a 51-47 victory. Taylor Stout started the
scoring for GHS in the first contest and a successful three-point play by Jenna
Frazier helped the Lady Bulldogs to a 5-0 lead. Meghan Eaves broke the run with
a free throw, but Gleason used a 9-0 run including six points from Stout to take
a commanding 14-1 advantage after one.
In the second quarter, the Lady Red Devils were limited
to free throws for the entire quarter. Though the home team connected on all six
attempts, the visitors doubled up on the points, out-scoring South Fulton 12-6
to take a 26-7 halftime lead.
Gleason opened the third with four points, but SF
pulled a run behind seven points from Chelsea Cox. Riley Auvenshine scored eight
points, including two threes, for Gleason and helped the visitors to a 40-22
lead after three.
South Fulton opened the last frame with Brooke Kanes
successful conversion of a three-point play. Cox followed with a layup and the
Gleason lead was cut to 13 at 40-27. With 2:43 left to play, Cherissa Vinson
knocked down a trey for SF to again cut the lead to 13 at 43-30. Kim Edenfield
took over for Gleason on the charity stripe hitting 7-of-9 free throws and
leading her team to a 50-36 win.
Auvenshine led Gleason with 13 points. Stout had 12.
Vinson scored 12 for South Fulton.
In the second game, Ben Sumner opened the scoring for the Bulldogs. David
Shepherd's putback tied the contest. The game remained tied for the better part
of the first quarter until a layup from Jonathan Avent gave the Red Devils the
6-4 lead with just under a minute left.
Ben Rollins made good on a rare four-point play to give
Gleason the 8-6 lead, but Shepherd hit a three to put South Fulton ahead 9-8. A
Sumner steal and layup put Gleason ahead 10-9 after one.
In the second quarter, the Red Devils surged ahead on back-to-back layups from
Avent and Jonathan Clouse. The score seesawed throughout the quarter and with 39
seconds on the clock, Preston Frazier sank a pair of free throws for the Dawgs
to tie the score at 19. Connor Hicks answered with a layup, but Gleasons Colin
Bennett hit a layup and got fouled with 6.1 seconds left in the first half. He
missed the free throw and Drew Greer drilled a three at the buzzer to give South
Fulton the 24-21 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, the trend continued. The Red
Devils led 28-25 with 5:42 left in the frame. A Sumner putback brought Gleason
within one, 28-27. The Bulldogs held on and tied the home team at 31, but South
Fulton took the 33-31 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Gleason spent the better part of the final quarter in
the double bonus. With the score tied at 40, a pair of free throws from Bennett
put Gleason ahead 42-40 and a layup from Sumner increased the lead, 44-40. A
free throw from Jacob Wade and a three-point play from Shepherd, however, tied
the score yet again.
With 1:18 left in the contest, Bennett converted a
three-point play to put the Bulldogs ahead 47-44. He hit an additional free
throw with 50.8 seconds to increase the lead, 48-44, but Greer hit a three to
bring the home team closer at 48-47. From there, it was up to Bennett and he
delivered from the foul line to seal the 51-47 victory.

14. Avent had 11 for South Fulton. Source: Weakley County Press.
Gleason Bulldog
Teams End 2007 with Nailbiters in Classic
In
two nailbiters with two different end results, Gleason took home a
win and a loss in its final two games at the Huntingdon Point
Guard-Coca Cola Christmas Classic Friday night.
In the first game, the
Gleason Lady Bulldogs used bonus free throws to put away the Henry
County Lady Patriots, 34-31, and in the second contest, the Bulldogs
almost completed a successful second half comeback, but fell to the
McKenzie Rebels, 53-48. Taylor Stout hit a bucket for the Lady
Bulldogs to open scoring and Jenna Frazier took a charge on defense
and followed the effort by hitting a 3-pointer at the other end of
the court. With Gleason leading 5-0, Henry County lit the scoreboard
with just under five minutes on the clock on a Katie VanDyke basket.
She encored the two with a three to tie the score at five. Frazier
connected on 1-of-2 free throws and at the end of one, Gleason held
a 6-5 edge.
Riley Auvenshine started
the second quarter by taking a charge and Kim Edenfield hit a
3-pointer to give the visitors a 9-5 lead. Ivey Dye answered and
sliced the lead to 9-7 and, after a layup from Stout, cut the lead
to two again at 11-9. A Frazier layup put Gleason ahead 13-11 after
Sarah Hefner missed the free throw on a three-point play
opportunity, but VanDyke tied the score at 13 with just over three
minutes before halftime. Gleason controlled the pace of the game and
with just under a minute before the half, Auvenshine grabbed an
offensive board and stuck the layup to give the Lady Bulldogs a
15-13 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter,
Missy Lavine hit two straight layups for Henry County to give the
Lady Patriots the 17-15 lead, but a Frazier basket tied the score at
17. Stout made a layup for Gleason, but Lavine again tied the score.
With buckets from Auvenshine and Camille Cooper, the Lady Dawgs took
a four-point lead, but it was short-lived as the Lady Patriots came
back to tie with 2:32 on the clock. At the two-minute mark, Stout
gave GHS the 25-23 lead and the Lady Dawgs maintained it through the
end of the third. Both teams found themselves in the bonus in the
final frame and Porter hit 1-of-2 free throws to edge Henry County
closer at 25-24 with 5:43 left in the contest. An offensive board
and putback from Meagan Meketie gave the Lady Patriots a one-point
lead with just under five minutes, but Frazier answered and gave
Gleason the 27-26 advantage. An Edenfield jumper increased the lead,
29-26, but Meredith Boyd hit a three to tie the game with 2:16 left.
Frazier sank two free throws, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 31-29 lead.
With 27 seconds left, Edenfield hit two free throws to increase the
lead, 33-29, but two free throws from Porter made the score 33-31.
Auvenshine hit 1-of-2 from the line and a long 3-point attempt from
Porter fell just short to give Gleason the 34-31 win. Frazier led
Gleason with 12 points. VanDyke had seven for Henry County.
In
the second game, the McKenzie Rebels looked to be in control early.
Hitting five 3-pointers in the first quarter, they took a 19-11 lead
after one. Evan Orr opened the second quarter with a three for
Gleason and Ben Rollins also connected from long distance to make
the score 19-17. The Dawgs out-scored the Rebels 9-8 for the quarter
and trailed by seven at the half, 27-20.
Rollins opened the
scoring in the second half and brought Gleason to within five,
27-22. He followed the two with a three and shaved the lead to four
at 29-25. Cody Ezell hit 1-of-2 free throws and Rollins sank a
floater, but the Rebels maintained the four-point edge by
controlling the offensive boards. McKenzie jumped out to a 36-30
lead, but Orr hit another three to cut it in half. At the end of
three, McKenzie held onto a 37-35 lead. In the fourth quarter, Ben
Sumner hit a layup and tied the score at 37. Ezell drew a charge and
followed it with a three to give the Bulldogs a 40-37 lead with just
over six minutes left on the clock. Derek Carr came back with a
three for the Rebels to tie, but Colin Bennett hit a three to give
Gleason the 43-40 lead.
With just over four
minutes left, Gleason held onto the three-point edge, but with both
teams in the bonus, McKenzie climbed closer at 45-44 with 3:33 left.
At the 2:40 mark, Shabree Payne hit a layup and gave the Rebels the
46-45 lead. With free throws from Payne the lead increased, 48-45,
but Rollins delivered again with a trey to tie the contest with
1:40. With just under a minute left, Carr hit a 3-pointer and
connected on two free throws to give the Rebels a 53-48 lead and
they maintained it for the remainder of the game to take the win.
Carr led McKenzie with 15 points. Rollins had 18 for Gleason
including four treys.
In the opening games of
the Point Guard Classic on Thursday afternoon, the Gleason squads
split action with the Bruceton Tiger teams. The Lady Bulldogs
doubled Bruceton, 62-31, while the Bruceton boys controlled the
boards en route to a 70-44 win over Gleason.
In the girls game,
Gleason didn't have any holiday hangover, erupting for 22
first-quarter points to quickly take control. Making the extra pass
led to Maggie Lowrance tallying seven points and Riley Auvenshine
pitching in five in the frame to aid the Lady Dawgs to a 22-6 lead
after a quarter. Both Camille Cooper and Jenna Frazier were 4-of-4
at the free-throw line in the second stanza as Gleason increased its
lead to 20 points by the halftime break, 37-17. Every Gleason player
saw action in the second half as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a
49-23 lead after three quarters en route to the 62-31 victory.
Frazier led GHS with 13 points, while Taylor Stout and Kim Edenfield
each scored 10. For Bruceton, Cynthia Webb hit five treys for 15
points.
In the boys game, the
Bulldogs could not keep Bruceton off the offensive backboards and
paid for it with a loss. The Tigers piled up second-chance points on
the way to a 70-44 loss. Eight of Bruceton's 14 first-quarter points
came after an offensive rebound and the trend continued in the
second quarter with 12 of 18 points coming via that route. The
Tigers used the board advantage to build a 14-4 lead after one
frame. The Gleason offense recovered to pitch in a dozen points in
the second quarter led by five from Preston Frazier, but still
trailed the Tigers 32-16 at halftime. The third quarter was the best
for the Bulldogs, as they out-scored Bruceton 15-13 led by four
points each by Evan Orr, and Ben Rollins and five more from Frazier.
Ahead 45-31 heading into the fourth quarter, Bruceton stretched its
lead in the final stanza on the way to the win. Frazier and Colin
Bennett topped the Dawg scorers with a dozen points each, while
Chandler Jordan and Bubba Matlock each scored 14 for the Tigers.
Nick Bryant added 12 points for Bruceton.
