  Facts about all 50 States

Having now been in business for more than 40 years, Master Tire & Auto Service is a full spectrum automobile maintenance and auto repair service center. In addition to Gleason, Master Tire & Auto also have locations in both Paris and Dyersburg.

At the Gleason location alone, there is over 70 years of combined experience between the three highly experienced auto technicians/mechanics.

They specialize in alignments, brake services and repairs, and exhaust work and boast the best alignment equipment anywhere - with a new alignment machine that represents the latest technological advances on the market.

They also offer auto diagnostics, vehicle tune ups, oil changes, batteries, air conditioning, and  transmission and coolant flushes and sell all name brand tires including Michelin, Bridgestone, Firestone, BF Goodrich, Uniroyal, Cooper, as well as others.

While Master Tire & Auto does not have a wrecker service itself, they do provide road service for the Gleason area; if a wrecker is needed they can contact a wrecker service for customers if necessary.

In terms of history, Master Tire & Auto has been owned and operated by the Morris family of Gleason since its inception, with the business being started in 1976 by Mr. Fred Morris. Both sons, Rusty and Randy, worked with and learned everything they needed to know to later run the business from their father from an early age.

Rusty Morris, who manages the Main Office in Gleason, indicated that he started  working in the auto repair business with his dad when he was only 14 - doing just about everything. This included learning a lot about auto maintenance and repair as well as learning how to handle various aspects of the business and to adapt to a changing business environment so as to meet customer needs.

He notes that over time the business has evolved from a relatively small operation under the name of “Master Muffler” that focused primarily on mufflers, muffler parts and muffler repairs. This was followed by expanding the business to also focus on brake services and repairs under the name of "Master Muffler and Brake”  and finally becoming a truly comprehensive  auto repair business that it is today, “Master Tire & Auto Repair”.

Looking at the history of this major Gleason business and its growth over time, from a human interest perspective, the importance of family and family values appears to have been crucial to its growth and success.

It is of interest that Mr. Fred Morris, had been in both the auto repair business and the ministry prior to moving to Gleason, having served as the Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in McKenzie for a number of years.

He and his family moved to Gleason when he accepted a position as Pastor of Beech Springs Baptist Church. With the support of his family, including his two sons Rusty and Randy, he was able to serve as both an effective pastor and establish and develop this very successful business.

With the business he started obviously being in good hands, with son Rusty being in charge of Master Tire and Auto Service and the Main Office in Gleason, and son Randy being in charge of the business in Dyersburg, Mr. Morris was later able to retire in order to work full time with “Wall of Grace Ministry”, a ministry that he originally developed while at Grace Baptist Church years ago.

It would seem that the involvement of Mr. Morris’s sons, who continue to run this very successful business, made it possible for him to continue his work in the ministry both before and since his retirement.

It also seems that Mr. Morris taught his children well, not only in terms of the need for developing increasingly complex auto repair skills and the understanding of  the necessity of  using up-to-date technology to service today’s high tech automobiles but also in terms of developing in them a solid work ethic and proper values regarding how customers should be treated.

These values seeme to be reflected in terms of  Rusty’s  philosophy of doing business. He notes that his philosophy is “always use the best parts available.”  Commenting that, at the Gleason location, there is over 70 years of experience between the auto technicians/mechanics working at this location and that “We want to do it right the first time!” Overall, the business philosophy seems to be on highly trained professionals providing a quality service at a fair price to the customer.

This model for providing quality service appears to be successful in terms the degree to which this business draws customers from the local area and beyond. He provided recent data indicating that approximately, 40 % of Master Tire and Auto customers come from the Gleason area. Another 21 % come from the area in and around Dresden, while approximately 13 % come from the area in and around McKenzie.

It seems that, not only do local citizens seem to find this to be a business where they can get their car maintenance and auto repair needs met, but others also appear to feel that it is worth the drive to get good service {Article provided by Jim Johnson).
