Born in Weakley County and a 1964
graduate of Gleason High School, Judith (Mansfield) Cody has recently authored a
new book with a most intriguing title -
Never Put A Piano on the Outside Wall.
The book, which contains related nonfiction short stories, is set in the rural West Tennessee
towns of Gleason, Dresden, Martin, McKenzie, Alamo, Bells, Brownsville and
Jackson.
The book tells how the lives of Judith's rural West Tennessee family members
were changed following the unexpected death of her brother, John Ross Mansfield,
a senior at the University of Tennessee who was killed by lightning while at
home in Gleason, Tenn., on a break from classes.
The dialogue, written in an authentic Southern voice, makes the characters "seem
to leap right off the page," one reader said.
"I look for Southern books. Most of them read like they were written by Yankees.
Never Put A Piano on the Outside Wall has a definite Southern flavor - no
Yankees here," the reader added.
Judith is a flight attendant with American Airlines and lives with her husband,
Tom, in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. She has four children, four grandchildren and
numerous family members (some of which appear in the book) and friends in
Tennessee.
Judith is currently on a book-signing tour across the country and said she has been invited to appear on the Jay Leno television show and that
plans are in the works for a movie based on stories in the book. Source:
