August 24th,
2010
Recently Clyde Taylor brought several books given
to the Gleason Library by and in memory of Frances Mikel.
August
2, Ray Danner, 90, died at Weakley County Nursing Home. Services were
August 5 at Williams Funeral Home with burial in Hopewell Cemetery. He
leaves a son, Danny and Mary Ellen Danner of Germantown, and a sister,
Mildred Brooks of Cookeville.
Kenneth Lemonds, 82, died
suddenly Tuesday, August 18. Services were Friday, August 20, at
Williams Funeral Home with burial in Everett’s Chapel Cemetery. He
leaves his wife, Mary Martha; a son, Kenneth; three stepdaughters that
he raised, Marsha Pruiton, Janet Peterson and Carol Burton, all of
Kansas; a stepson, Tommy Grooms; two more stepdaughters, Debbie
Rooks and Pat Delaney; three sisters, Julia Fowler, Audrey Crossett, and
Marjorie Soper (his twin); and a brother, Ray Lemonds.
Jimmy Glenn was in Paris
hospital for a heart catherization and treatment over the weekend.
Howard Ross upended his tractor last Thursday. Luckily the tractor cab
probably saved his life. He was carried to the hospital and received
three broken ribs and a concussion. He’s home now and very sore and
painful.
Andrew Wilson, son of Andy
and Jill Wilson, fell backwards from a cart hitting his head on
concrete. He was taken to Vanderbilt with a concussion. He stayed
overnight, then was home but vomiting all week. He was carried to Henry
County Hospital on Thursday where he had a stress ulcer and was treated
for that and fed intravenously as he was dehydrated. He’s better now but
missed the entire first week of school.
Martha
Poyner is still undergoing rehab at Plumley in Paris following a fall
that fractured her pelvic bone.
Buck Garner is not doing as
well. He is unable to get around on his walker now.
Bro. Jack Dickerson, a
former pastor of Gleason First Methodist and New Valley, is very ill at
Maplewood Health Care Center, room 204, 100 Cherrywood Place, Jackson,
TN 38305. His wife, Sarah, is also a patient there for some years.
Jim Phelps is a member of
the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle group who do many good things to honor
veterans and those now serving. He is trying to identify all veterans
buried at Hopewell Cemetery. Before Veteran’s Day in November, they hope
to have all veterans identified and will place an American flag on the
grave of each one. If you have a family member or know of any veteran
buried at Hopewell, please call him at cell #514-0733 or 364-2206 during
the day.
A
baby tea for Sarah and Shay Ellis and their expected October arrival of
baby boy Rowen was Sunday afternoon at First Baptist Church. They
received enough gifts for two or three babies but little Rowen will have
all he can wear. So many useful and needed gifts were presented to the
radiant mother.
Kayla Hudson, who has been
on a 10-day mission trip to Uganda, Africa, has returned from a very
inspirational and fulfilling mission trip to several different
orphanages seeing hundreds of children. She was with the Union
University Lady Bulldogs basketball team, friends and sponsors. In one
remote area they visited, they were the first white skinned people they
had ever seen. At first the people were frightened of them but soon
became friendly.
Kayla reports that it was
the greatest religious experience she had ever had. God bless all of
them, the visitors and the African people.
