Gleason’s annual “Hometown Christmas” celebration was once again held on Saturday, December 12th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The rain that had been predicted earlier in the week failed to materialize and the late afternoon and early evening temperatures were in the mid to upper '60's, making the weather perfect for people getting out and beginning to celebrate the Christmas season.

The best available estimates are that over three hundred Gleason residents came out to participate in the wide range of events that were provided for both children and adults.

With Bro. Keith Sumner serving as Master of Ceremonies, those that participated in these Pre- Christmas festivities were treated to some great music provided by local talent including  Jim Arnold and his group "Crossroads", Wendell Verdell, McKenna Cady, Gail Muzzall and young Wes Wainscott.

As always, there were many bids on the cakes that were auctioned off by Birddog Reed, and all were able to participate in drawings for a wide range of prizes donated by  Gleason businesses.  Others participated in an Ugly Christmas Sweater contest and the annual Cookie Eating Contest. For those who might have missed supper, great hamburgers grilled by Gleason Rotary Club & Masonic Lodge members, as well as catfish dinners provided by "Not Hig's" of McKenzie were available.

Santa Claus also showed up to provide younger children with an opportunity to let him know what they wanted for Christmas, while  older children were able to get their face painted and were treated to free rides on an antique fire truck and/or hayrides on a tractor-pulled wagon, reminiscent of the Good Ole’ Days.

As in years past, this years Hometown Christmas celebration seemed to have been enjoyed by all, in terms of bringing the community together and providing a venue for spending time with neighbors and friends - along with a touch of Christmas cheer !
